It’s time to consider getting your own Disney+ account, but it’s only about $10 a month which is less than some streaming services.
The era of password sharing is ending, and even Disney wants you to get your own account.
In an interview with CNBC, Disney CEO Bob Iger said that Disney Plus plans to crack down on password sharing “in a few countries” starting in June. Then in September, it will expand that to all the countries it serves. Initially, this means that suspicious-looking log-ins will receive a popup notification that they need to create their own subscription.
This isn’t a new initiative on Disney’s part. New rules for subscriptions that ban password sharing were rolled out in January to new subscribers and for existing subscribers last month. Now, it appears that Disney is just getting serious about enforcing those rules.
The move comes just weeks after Disney announced a partnership with Hulu that will grant subscribers both Disney Plus and Hulu access for one monthly subscription fee. At the time of this writing, that fee is $9.99 per month. If you want to add ESPN+ to the mix, you can get all three services for $14.99 per month.
Unfortunately, the combination subscriptions won’t grant you access to all the content on Hulu or ESPN, but it does expand your content options beyond only what Disney produces.
Regardless of how you plan to move forward, it appears now is the time, since soon you won’t have any choice.
