Society Social is a furniture brand that’s truly redefining traditional design. AAPI and female-owned, they offer unique, customizable pieces from sofas to coffee tables and beds. Founded by Roxy Te Owens in 2011, the brand has collaborated with interior designer Ariel Okin, NuWallpaper, Lilly Pulitzer, and the iconic Palm Beach hotel, The Colony among other brands.
However, Society Social’s latest collaboration—with southern department store Belk is a true full-circle moment for the founder. In March 2024, the brand launched a limited edition decor and apparel capsule collection to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Crown & Ivy, which is Belk’s exclusive line.
More Than A Decade In The Making
This partnership is more than just a simple collaboration for Owens. She began her career at Belk after earning a business degree from North Carolina State and finishing at Parsons School of Design. “I was recruited before graduation and entered into the Executive Training program which is essentially a fast track into the buying office. I spent most of my time at Belk in the Juniors buying office where the fashion assortments are fun and trendy,” she tells me.
While Owens first thought being a buyer was her true path—she realized her skill set was better suited for a different aspect of the business. “I left after two or so years and felt that I had failed. However, from this setback emerged a silver lining. Soon after, I founded Society Social, where I could fully leverage my experience in marketing, brand building, and merchandising to create something special, something of my own.”
When Belk’s team reached out to Owens, everything came full circle for the talented designer and entrepreneur.
From Furniture To Fashion
The line features both fashion and decor with an undeniably southern and fabulously traditional aesthetic. “Deliberately avoiding occasion-specific attire, we crafted pieces intended for versatility, effortlessly transitioning from a night out to a casual day running errands or a carefree stroll along the beach. Our intention is for our customers to reach for these pieces more often than not,” explains Owens.
It feels accessible, yet thoughtfully designed. Both the apparel and decor exemplify Society Social’s signature chicness.
“Our collection boasts thoughtful details that echo our interiors work and in-house furniture designs: from ruffles and scallops to gorgeous embroidery, florals, and classic block prints, all in easy fabrics,” reveals Owens. “Whether it’s a floral-embroidered dress that can be worn on or off the shoulder, a modern matching set with a charming scalloped hem and ruffle collar top made more playful with a kick flare pant, or block-printed dresses, each piece is crafted for the rhythm of everyday life—envisioned for family gatherings, vacation getaways, celebrations large or small, and every moment in between.”
The Decor
The decor line features elevated essentials from tableware to lamps, picture frames and other pieces that add an extra pop of style and color. “When it comes to the home offerings within the collection, I’m particularly drawn to the timeless appeal of our classic vases,” says Owens. “These beautiful pieces serve as the perfect vessels for displaying an abundance of tulips or your favorite spring blooms. Fresh flowers are a simple luxury that I love to have in our home as often as we can! And, I must mention the large oversized tray, crafted with intentional proportions to seamlessly complement our ottomans, adding both functionality and flair to any space.”
There are two vases in the collection, which can be styled next to each other or alone. The Bridgehampton vase has a contemporary shape and blue speckles, whereas the ceramic Newport vase has a classic shape.
Tableware
The tableware brings a dose of Southern charm to any table. With sweet scalloped edges, there are dinner plates, salad plates, and serving bowls along with cotton/linen blend block print napkins and placemats with blue, green, and white hues that easily mix and match.
Trays
The collection has two trays, a wicker tray and a blue lacquered tray. “We’ve seamlessly integrated our signature wicker elements, a hallmark of Society Social’s aesthetic, into this collection, further enhancing its continuity with our brand,” says Owens. These look fantastic on nightstands, coffee tables, or even on top of vanities.
The Fashion
The line features twelve dresses along with a matching set in sizes Extra Small through Extra Extra Large. These pieces are cool and casual yet polished.
“It’s no surprise that I’m particularly drawn to the colorful floral embroidery and versatility of the Roxy dress,” notes Owens. “Meanwhile, the Sedgewick Set offers a myriad of styling possibilities; whether worn as a coordinated ensemble or separately as a chic pant or top, it’s such a smart, not to mention zippy, addition to your closet. The Zizi dress is wonderfully unfussy for an off-the-shoulder style and the Rachel block print dress features a stylish square neckline and smocked, puff sleeves, all of which can be dressed up or down.”
No matter how you wear, decorate with, or style this Society Social line, this partnership with Belk is the start of even bigger things for this thriving brand and its incredible founder.
