It was another special season for Washington women’s basketball, as the Huskies had a joy-filled journey on Montlake and beyond.
OFF TO AN HISTORIC START
The Huskies got off to an historic start to the season.
- Going 11-0 to start the season tied UW’s best start to a season in program history, the last and only other time being the 1976-77 season.
- 11 wins in a row tied for the 3rd-longest win streak in program history. The last time UW went 11-0 was the 2016-17 season.
DAWGS IN THE RANKINGS
Washington earned a spot in the Associated Press weekly poll.
- Being ranked No. 23 in the AP Top 25 (released 12.18.23) was UW’s first AP ranking since the final poll of the 2016-17 season.
AGAINST TOP-25 OPPONENTS
The Huskies put up a lot of fight all season, and put the nation on notice with big wins against ranked opponents, all when the Huskies were un-ranked.
- UW had four wins over AP-ranked opponents, three of which were on the road.
- The last time UW had four wins over AP-ranked opponents was the 2016-17 season. The last time the Huskies did so during the regular season was the 1997-98 season.
- When the Huskies got their second true road win over an AP ranked opponent this past season, it was the first time since the 1994-95 season the Huskies had two ranked road wins in the regular season.
- This season was the first in program history that UW won three games on the road at ranked opponents.
- The win vs. No. 9 Oregon State marked UW beating an AP Top-10 opponent for the second-straight season, making it the first time defeating a Top-10 opponent in consecutive seasons since 2016-17.
- The 10-point win over No. 9 Oregon State was the first double-digit win over a ranked opponent since 2014. The Huskies went on to have another double-digit win over a ranked opponent at No. 18 Utah by 15 points.
IT’S A SWEEP
Washington defeated both Oregon and Oregon State for the second consecutive season.
- UW swept the Oregon schools at home in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2007-08.
- The sweep of the Oregon schools was the first completed sweep (home or away) in consecutive seasons since 2016-17.
ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS
Washington’s non-conference game at home vs. North Carolina Central on 11.09.23 went down in the record books.
- 113 points was the second-most points scored in program history, the record being 114 set on December 20, 1985 vs. Weber State.
- It was the first time Washington scored 100 or more points since the Huskies scored 108 on March 20, 2017 vs. Oklahoma.
- +74 is the new record for largest margin of victory, breaking the previous record set on February 13, 1979 vs. Puget Sound by one.
- The Huskies scored 34 points in the second quarter, breaking the record for most points scored in a quarter. The previous record was 33 scored on November 13, 2019 vs. Weber State.
POSTSEASON
For the second season in a row, the Huskies earned a spot in the postseason.
- Washington received the No. 2 seed in the inaugural WBIT, owned and funded by the NCAA.
- This was UW’s 28th overall postseason appearance in 50 seasons, and second consecutive.
- Prior to last season (ending in the WNIT Fab Four), the last time Washington had received a postseason berth was at the end of the 2016-17 season, when the Huskies went to the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen.
