- The Mercedes-Benz C-Class lineup will be updated ahead of the arrival of an elecric model
- A prototype for the updated C-Class wagon sold overseas has been spotted
- The updated C-Class sedan is expected to arrive in the U.S. by late 2025 or early the following year
Mercedes-Benz is preparing to launch an electric C-Class in 2026, but the current gas-powered model, available since the 2022 model year, will remain in production.
It’s set to receive an update, and a prototype of the updated wagon body style has been spotted for the first time. Earlier spy shots captured prototypes of the updated sedan.
Mercedes doesn’t sell the C-Class wagon in the U.S., and the updated version isn’t expected to be offered there either. However, the prototype in the latest spy shots hints at some of the changes we can expect on the sedan.
The prototype features a revised grille that resembles the design used on the latest E-Class. The headlights are also new, incorporating Mercedes star logos for the daytime running lights and likely the turn signals. This design trait will first appear on a redesigned CLA-Class set to debut later this year.

Other changes include a new design for the side mirror caps, which now have clearly visible cameras for the surround-view camera system. The rear appears unchanged for now, but a redesigned rear fascia is likely to be introduced with this update.
It’s unclear what mechanical changes Mercedes has planned. The C-Class currently comes standard in the U.S. with a 2.0-liter turbo-4 paired with a mild-hybrid system, producing a peak of 255 hp. Buyers can choose between rear- and all-wheel drive.
For performance enthusiasts, Mercedes’ AMG division offers the C 43 and C 63 S E Performance. The C 43 also features a 2.0-liter turbo-4 with a mild-hybrid system, delivering 416 hp. The C 63 S E Performance pairs the same type of engine with a plug-in hybrid system that includes a powerful electric motor on the rear axle. This setup produces a combined 671 hp, though the plug-in hybrid system adds significant weight.
Expect the updated C-Class to debut late this year or early next year, arriving as a 2026 model in the U.S.—though, as mentioned, only in sedan form. Mercedes has confirmed that the electric C-Class will launch in 2026, likely arriving in the U.S. as a 2027 model. An electric GLC-Class is also scheduled to go on sale in 2026.
