The North American love affair with the large pickup truck is undeniable, though interest seems to be growing in small, fuel-efficient pickups like the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz. As customers demand more power and improved efficiency, several hybrid and electric truck options have hit the market too, though the small truck segment remains relatively underserved. There’s room for growth as truck shoppers seek new and exciting alternatives that sync perfectly with their needs, tastes, and budgets.
Today, a few all-electric pickup trucks are available, each massive in size and carrying a similarly hefty price tag. Shoppers after a smaller and more affordable electric truck needn’t wait much longer before a new option hits the market, however. TELO Trucks is a little-known company that is ramping up to launch its all-electric pickup, called the MT1. It flaunts the footprint of a Mini Cooper, room for 5 adults, and a 60-inch (5-foot) bed, the same as a Toyota Tacoma and larger than a Rivian R1T. And it starts at $41,520. Sounds impossible, doesn’t it?

Suitable For The Job Site And The Surf Party
A glance at the MT1’s unique shape helps reveal what’s behind these impressive numbers, with a cab positioned at the very front of the truck. Not only does this give the MT1 a unique look that’ll be easy to track down in the parking lot, but it also helps maximize the space available for drivers and their people and things, while simultaneously enhancing visibility and maneuverability. For added versatility, rear seats fold down via the midgate, extending the cargo bed into the rear seats, making room to carry 4×8 plywood sheets or 8-foot surfboards with the tailgate up.

None of these all-electric pickup trucks disappoint in terms of sheer towing specs.
“Having been on the forefront of clean mobility since engineering the EV battery pack in the first Tesla Roadster, I know it’s possible for automakers to offer drivers an affordable electric vehicle that goes further than simply cutting carbon emissions,” said Forrest North, TELO Co-Founder and CTO. “It’s about giving them a revolutionary vehicle design that’s safer, more sustainable, more functional and also fun to drive.”
Arriving Early Next Year With Lower Pricing And Multiple Configurations
Initially revealed in 2023, TELO’s mini truck is set to hit the market in early 2025. Ahead of its arrival, TELO has unveiled its trim options, including a just-announced powertrain offering and 8 colorways and their related price points.
The newly-announced single-motor, standard-range MT1 opens from $41,520, bringing the base price down from the $49,999 price announced earlier for the dual-motor model. According to TELO, over 3,700 pre-orders have been logged to date. Placing a pre-order requires just $152 – the length in inches of the compact EV.

In its dual-motor configuration, drivers get 500 horsepower, four-wheel drive, and the choice of a Standard battery with a range of 260 miles, or the Long Range battery which pushes the range to 350 miles. With the newly-announced single-motor 2WD option, look for 300 horsepower and similar range figures. Notably, the MT1 can charge from 20-80% in just 20 minutes, with 0-60 mph on dual-motor models coming up in 4 seconds. Standard battery specs and performance figures for the MT1 are not yet available.
