South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer went into the locker room at Gaylord Memorial Stadium with a 32-3 halftime lead, giving him an option of messages to share with his team.
Beamer told SEC Network sideline reporter Alyssa Lang that he wasn’t going to say “it’s 0-0.” No. The Gamecocks (4-3, 2-3 SEC) were dominating. He wanted that message to echo, to linger.
Oklahoma had no answers on offense, and in the first SEC showdown in program history, South Carolina picked up a 35-9 win over the Sooners (4-3, 1-3), dominating from start to finish.
The Gamecocks logged nine sacks, 13 tackles for loss, two interceptions, five forced fumbles, and by the 10-minute mark of the fourth quarter, eight different defenders had sacked the Oklahoma QB.
Quarterback LaNorris Sellers was 16-of-24 passing for 175 yards, one touchdown to go with 13 rushing yards on 28 attempts.
South Carolina’s Rocket Sanders led the way on the ground, logging one touchdown and 33 yards. Tight end Josh Simon scored on a 33-yard touchdown pass, and caught four of five targets for 43 total yards.
