As the garbage came down, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian and then other members of the Texas team walked to the corner of the end zone waving their hands and asking students to stop. Cheerleaders and staff picked up the garbage as the boos continued.
But after the stoppage, the officials ruled there was not pass interference and it would indeed be Texas’ ball.
“Well, I think that somebody had the guts to step up and talk about the call,” ESPN rules analyst Bill LeMonnier said of the decision. “You know, they had the delay because of all the bottles on the field, but they got together and did the right thing.”
After the call, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Jaydon Blue on second and goal.
