The spaceframe chassis that holds the key to the performance of the Lamborghini Temerario is aptly named as it looks like it comes from outer space. It has carefully located links, exquisitely stamped shapes, and more rectangular tubing than we would have expected. All of this helps this 907-horsepower PHEV monster perform at its best.

Lamborghini’s CTO is featured in a new video that helps explain the chassis of the company’s newest model. It shows off the benefits of the new design over the one it replaces.
Fewer Parts, More Strength
This new chassis is 25 percent stiffer than the Huracan that the Lamborghini Temerario replaces. CTO Rouven Mohr says that Lamborghini had to completely redesign the chassis to handle the increased forces that the Temerario PHEV system puts on the car.
Despite being stronger, the new chassis has a more than 50 percent reduction in components versus the chassis of the Huracan. At the same time, it has significantly fewer welds by 80 percent, which is a massive reduction in the complexity of the car.

Reducing the number of parts usually only happens when existing parts are made stronger. The side benefit of fewer welds is that Lamborghini can build the cars more quickly and more efficiently. That might not be a performance benefit, but it means that the company might be able to get more copies out the door. If you’re an owner, fewer welds could mean getting your car in your hands sooner.
Mohr highlights the new rear section of the car. It’s not exactly pretty, but he says it contributes to making the car a better-handling Lamborghini than the Huracan it replaces.
Lamborghini Will Cover Temerario’s “Different Souls” Next
This video is just the first in a series. Lamborghini plans to do more of these tech dives as part of the launch of the Temerario hybrid. Next up, Mohr said, is a “deep dive into the different souls of the car.” Which means it’s time to explore the engine and the hybrid motor systems.
The Lamborghini Temerario is the first mid-engine V8 Lambo since the Jalpa in 1981, and it’s the company’s first sports car with a turbocharger. The car’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 makes 789 horsepower and screams to 10,000 rpm, replacing the Huracan’s 631-horsepower V10.

The new plug-in hybrid V8 is a feat of engineering, but the evocative V10 howl will be missed.
In addition to the gas engine, the Temerario has three electric motors, including two that drive the front axle. Electric power brings the total to 907 horsepower, with a 0-60 time expected to be just 2.7 seconds.
