Key Takeaways
- New Ferrari hypercar spotted with cleaner bodywork and distinct aerodynamic features.
- Flagship Ferrari rumored to have a V6 engine, not a V8 or V12.
- Active aero and advanced hybridization will enhance performance over LaFerrari.
In a since-deleted post on Instagram, two images of the new Ferrari hypercar were recently shared, giving us our best look yet at the LaFerrari successor, said to be internally codenamed F250. The new sighting of the Maranello-made hypercar was made by photographer Dom Goebel, and the images show what appears to be either the final production bodywork or something very close to it. Gone are the canvas headlight covers and drapes over the intake elements seen in earlier spy shots, allowing us to get a better idea of where airflow will be directed. With all that being said, this is still a somewhat crude prototype, and we expect cleaner edges and a more congruent look when the last of the camouflage comes off.
Ferrari
Ferrari is an Italian manufacturer of sports cars, supercars, and luxury grand tourers founded by and named after Enzo Ferrari in 1939 – originally as Auto Avio Costruzioni due to legal complications with Alfa Romeo. Ferrari famously only produced roadgoing sports cars as a means of funding its racing exploits, which include multiple F1 World Championships and wins at Le Mans and various other prestigious races. Today, Ferrari is one of the most valuable brand names in the world, limiting production of its highly-sought-after models to maintain desirability, which is in no short supply when they’re powered by some of the world’s most advanced V6, V8, and V12 engines.

Low, Wide, And Hyrbidized
The existence of yellow triangular decals reaffirms that this will be a hybrid hypercar, just like the LaFerrari and the modern SF90 Stradale. At the front, headlights not dissimilar to those seen on the Ferrari 12Cilindri have appeared, while a front hood with at least two extraction vents builds on Maranello’s existing S-duct concept, which we’ve seen both in Formula 1 and in the Ferrari 296 Challenge race car, along with roadgoing cars like the 488 Pista. A front splitter works in tandem with air curtains to smooth airflow over the wheels while also helping to direct air toward the lower side intake, just above enormous rocker panels. Smaller intakes behind the glasshouse also feed the mid-mounted engine.

The production mirrors appear to have been fitted, and as previously confirmed in a spy video, we know the doors will open upward in butterfly fashion. A single windshield wiper adds to the motorsport-inspired feel of the car. As for the wheels, these appear to be temporary placeholders. At the rear of the car, a full-width wing appears to reinvent the S-duct for increased downforce on the rear axle, something CarBuzz already predicted earlier this year when we found the patent. An enormous rear diffuser and a centrally-mounted exhaust tip are also evident, and another patent suggests these could work in tandem.
What Engine Is Ferrari Using?
A few years ago, it seemed certain that a flagship Ferrari would only ever be sold with a V12, and Maranello still intends to keep it alive for many years to come, but Ferrari dislikes turbocharged 12-cylinders. Although yet to be confirmed, the rumor mill suggests that the LaFerrari replacement won’t downsize to just a V8 but will go even smaller with a V6 engine. Although these images do not give an accurate sense of scale, the engine compartment appears to have enough space for something bigger.

Ferrari Develops New Exhaust System With Active Aerodynamic Functionality
Ferrari has patented a way around noise laws without compromising emissions, specifically for its V8. Better still, it has an aerodynamic benefit.
Then again, with electrification certainly employed, this area may be used to package hybrid components, like the battery pack. What it will be called is also a mystery, but we’ve discovered some potential choices in previous trademark filings:
- F80
- F80 A
- Drake
- Drake A
- La Rossa
- La Rossa A
With all of that being said, we don’t expect to have to wait much longer to learn more. Welcome gifts were sent to buyers last month, and company vice chairman Piero Ferrari said the new hypercar would arrive soon. As soon as it does, we’ll tell you all about it.
