Lynchburg, Va. — The University of Lynchburg women’s volleyball team took down the Averett University Cougars in a three-set shut out on Saturday morning.
The Hornets (15-11, 7-4) played with urgency throughout the whole match, keeping the Cougars below 20 in all three sets. Morgan Clarke and Jaina Leek led the defensive charge with a combined 24 digs in the game.
In the first, set the Cougars jumped out first to score, but the Hornets quickly matched them with a point of their own. They went back and forth for most of the set before the Hornets pulled away towards the end in a 25-18 set victory. The second frame played out much like the first one, the Hornets taking this one 25-16.
With the shutout in sight, the Hornets didn’t let up for the third set. They started out strong, scoring first on the Cougars, and kept that energy through to the end. The offensive leader for the night, Kailey Keough ended the set with her 10th kill of the match making the final score 25-17.
This was a second straight shutout win for the Hornets, earning them the fourth triumph in the last five matches. They are back on the court on Friday, November 1, at 6:30 p.m., in Greensboro to take on Guilford College for their final ODAC matchup of the season.
