These 2024 video games are not only engaging and time-consuming, but most are also highly rated.
Video games hit different people in different ways, with some games dubbed unplayable and others celebrated as must-play epics that demand serious time and focus. If you’re looking to lose yourself in a game this fall, here are some you might not want to start unless you’re ready for the commitment.
Cases.gg, a mystery box website, analyzed video games released in 2024 to find the most time-consuming and engaging titles. They based their findings on three factors: the time needed to complete each game (including side quests), the retirement rate (percentage of players who quit early), and player ratings. Using these, they scored games out of ten to rank the top 50.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth takes the top spot. This RPG demands an average of 91 hours to complete, but with only half a percent of players giving up, it’s clear people are invested. It’s clearly both time-consuming and incredibly well-loved, with a strong fan rating of 91 percent and an overall score of 8.7 out of 10.
Next is a simulation game known for its factory-building mechanics: Satisfactory. It’s the longest on the list, requiring 133 hours to finish. Despite its 7.4 percent retirement rate, it still scores a surprising 8.4 overall with an 83 percent player rating.
Third, we have Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy. This fan-favorite has about 96 hours of gameplay. Thanks to its engaging storyline, only 0.5 percent of players quit this visual novel adventure game before the end, and it carries an 84 percent rating. It also scored 8.4 overall.
In fourth place is Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. It requires around 85 hours to complete this RPG, and with a low retirement rate of 0.8 percent, it’s a great choice for long-term play. Its 89 percent rating helped it earn a score of 8.4 and makes it one of the most enjoyable games for fans of the genre.
Persona 3 Reload rounds out the top five, with an 82-hour completion time. Scoring 8.2, it has a slightly higher retirement rate of 2.1 percent, but its 90 percent fan rating reflects a strong reception from players who appreciate its storyline.
This list is just the beginning—Cases.gg analyzed the top 50 games with the rest of the top 10 including Rusty’s Retirement (109 hours), Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance (64 hours), Unicorn Overlord (66 hours), Black Myth: Wukong (48 hours), and The Shell Part II: Purgatorio (43 hours).
These games are perfect for a long break or dedicated time indoors—just be ready to invest some serious time!
