Donald Trump‘s 2024 election win over Kamala Harris was certified by a joint session of Congress today in just 28 minutes with Kamala Harris presiding over the process and formalizing her own defeat as the roll-call of Electoral College votes by states was read out.
A senior adviser told CNN that the president-elect was ready to watch today’s certification with a mindset of “pure vindication.”
Today marks the fourth anniversary of the Capitol riot of January 6, 2021, in which supporters of Trump stormed Congress while then-vice president Mike Pence presided over the same session.
Meanwhile, Trump is attempting to stave off the sentencing for his criminal hush-money case conviction, currently scheduled for January 10, just ten days before his inauguration and the start of this second term in the White House.
The president-elect’s legal team filed a motion to stay the scheduled sentencing date with his spokesperson demanding “this meritless hoax be immediately dismissed.”
Finally, President Joe Biden has moved to ban new offshore oil and gas development along most US coastlines, a decision that Trump, who vowed to boost domestic energy production, may find difficult to reverse. The president-elect has accused Biden of complicating the transition process.

Joint session flying by with no objections
The joint session of Congress to certify the Electoral College votes is flying by given there are no objections to the results of any of the states. This is how the process is supposed to work and why it was a relatively obscure procedural moment in the lead up to the inauguration.
There are also no rioters storming the building.

‘We will never forget your sacrifice or let others whitewash the lawlessness and treachery of that day’
Democratic Minority Leader of the House of Representatives Hakeem Jeffries posted his thanks to the law enforcement officers that protected the Capitol against the rioters four years ago.

Electoral College certification underway in Congress
Vice President Kamala Harris has begun presiding over the joint session after spending a few moments chatting with Speaker of the House Mike Johnson.
The first electoral votes for President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance — from the state of Alabama — are accepted without objection. The process now proceeds alphabetically through the states.
As she walked through the Capitol Rotunda for today’s joint session, Garrett Haake of NBC News asked Vice President Harris what she wanted people to take away from today. She replied: “That Democracy must be upheld by the people.”

Trump continues to fantasize about Canada joining union in comments on Trudeau resignation
You knew this was coming…
Donald Trump has once again indulged in his fantasy about Canada giving up its status as a sovereign nation to become part of the United States while remarking on the resignation announcement from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Many people in Canada LOVE being the 51st State. The United States can no longer suffer the massive Trade Deficits and Subsidies that Canada needs to stay afloat. Justin Trudeau knew this, and resigned. If Canada merged with the U.S., there would be no Tariffs, taxes would go way down, and they would be TOTALLY SECURE from the threat of the Russian and Chinese Ships that are constantly surrounding them. Together, what a great Nation it would be!!!
