Volvo Cars has reported a record-breaking 2024, claiming the highest full-year retail sales, revenues and core operating profit in the company’s 98-year history. However, the Swedish marque envisions a very challenging 2025, and announced that it’s bolstering its lineup this year with five new or refreshed versions of existing Volvos. More importantly, a followup to the Volvo EX30 electric crossover is also underway, with testing to begin this year.
Apart from the EX30 Cross Country that will debut this month, Volvo has confirmed that the ES90 – teased last year, likely to be the electric replacement for the S90 luxury sedan – will be introduced this year. Two existing Volvos will be refreshed this year, with one likely to be the aging XC60 that will feature improvements found in the facelifted version of the XC90. The final one will be a long-range PHEV model that will be exclusively offered in China.
Two New SPA3 Models Coming
Apart from the mentioned models, Volvo is also looking to expand its lineup as part of its plan to host 10 launches in the next two years. Two new models will be introduced based on the SPA3 platform, which will use the same megacasting production technique that Tesla pioneered. It’s unclear what models will be first introduced in 2026, but they will be smaller than the SPA2-based EX90 and the upcoming EX60.

The EX90 is an electric flagship with a premium interior and ample features for a tech-savvy vibe, but some parts of it will take some getting use to.
Volvo also plans to ramp up the production of the EX90 this year. Meanwhile, the automaker plans to begin the testing phase of the EX60, the first model based on the SPA3 platform. The electric SUV will be built as a prototype this year, with its production model scheduled to be introduced in 2026 alongside the other two SPA3-based models shown in the presentation.
Volvo’s Going To Be Busy For The Next 24 Months
Volvo’s global timeline for the next 24 months is certainly busy, and rightfully so if it wants to match its performance last year, recording a new all-time sales record of 763,389 cars. The automaker expects this year to be challenging “due to the multitude of competitive and geopolitical challenges.”

It’s been nearly 10 years since the second generation Volvo XC90 launched, so is a second facelift enough to keep it fresh?
It remains unclear when the global models reach the US. Of note, the automaker has already introduced the changes and full lineup pricing for the 2025 model year, though we expect the EX30 Cross Country to join the fray later this year. In 2024, Volvo’s US sales totaled 125,243 units, reflecting a 2.7 percent decline compared to the previous year. Electrified models represented 34.3 percent of total sales, marking a 20.3 percent increase from the previous year.
