Researchers have recovered the logbooks from US Navy ships stationed at Pearl Harbour, providing new evidence for understanding how the global climate is changing. The ships were bombed during the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service, formally bringing the United States into WWII on the side of the Allies. Of the eight U.S. Navy battleships present during the attack, all were damaged with four sunk. All but USS Arizona were later raised, with six battleships being returned to active service in the war effort. The Japanese also sank or damaged three cruisers, three destroyers, an…

Underwater archaeologists exploring the sea bottom off the beaches of Greece’s Kasos Island discovered something not entirely unexpected, but still quite surprising. Over the course of four years of exploration, they spotted and identified ruins and artifacts from approximately 10 different shipwrecks, with one dating back as far as 3,000 BC. While they may have been looking for the remains of lost ships, the archaeologists never expected to discover such an impressive bounty of maritime wreckage and beautifully preserved objects. These finds will be invaluable to scientists and academics seeking to learn more about the history of commercial shipping in the southern Aegean and Mediterranean seas in…

Bentley’s first electric vehicle won’t debut until late 2026 and won’t reach customers until the following year, CEO Adrian Hallmark said on Tuesday while announcing the company’s 2023 financial results. It means the EV will arrive almost two years later than what Bentley announced in 2020, when plans for the vehicle were first announced. Hallmark said the delay was due to software issues and challenges in getting the vehicle’s Volkswagen Group-sourced platform to meet the standards Bentley requires. Hallmark also said Bentley will delay a previous plan to sell only EVs by 2030, due to the changing market landscape. He…

Roaring around with 408 horsepower, all-wheel drive, and two doors, the Audi Quattro Concept has already been tipped for production. The green light could come as early as this summer. According to Inside Line, the bosses at Quattro are “optimistic” about the car’s chances. If it does get the official go-ahead, it’ll still take two or three years to reach production form, however, meaning a debut in mid-2013 or 2014 at the earliest. Oddly, the report also says the Quattro’s engine will be RS5-based, and that it will also have to be mounted longitudinally in the Quattro’s chassis, as opposed…

Lamborghini’s Huracán officially bows out at the end of this year, after which the automaker will introduce a plug-in hybrid successor that will likely swap out the current car’s V-10 for a twin-turbocharged V-8. The rugged Huracán Sterrato launched last year was thought to be the final version of the Huracán, though recent trademark activity by the automaker suggests one more version might be in the works. First spotted by Car Buzz, Lamborghini on Tuesday filed a trademark application for the Huracán STJ name with the European Union Intellectual Property Office. Included in the application was a stylized version of…

Kia has been spotted testing a midsize pickup truck due on sale next year and set to be labeled as the Tasman. The pickup is aimed at global offerings like the Ford Ranger and Volkswagen Amarok twins, as well as the ever popular Toyota Hilux, and is unlikely to be sold in the U.S. Instead, Kia will launch an electric pickup in the U.S. sometime before 2027. Our spy shots show the Tasman will be a proper workhorse with a standard crew cab configuration and decent bed size. Leaf-spring rear suspension can also be spotted, which works well for carrying…

Washington CNN  —  The United States told Iran it was not involved and had no advance knowledge of Monday’s strike on an Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, a US official said.
