Matteo Jorgenson (Visma-Lease a Bike) was the final rider dropped by Mathieu van der Poel as the imperious Dutchman attacked in his “playground” up the Koppenberg and went solo to take his third Tour of Flanders. The young American tried valiantly to follow, cresting the 600-metre climb just a couple of bike lengths and seconds behind Van der Poel, but the difference between the pair would only balloon out during the subsequent 44km of racing. Jorgenson went all in trying to make an impression on his lead but had no answer as Van der Poel ensured his record-equalling victory was secure by…
To the surprise of absolutely no one, Taylor Swift won artist of the year at the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards, which were presented on Monday (April 1) at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. (Here’s the full list of winners.) Swift previously won the award in 2015. In 2016 and 2018, Swift won female artist of the year, before the iHearts moved to gender-neutral categories for good last year. Swift, who accepted her awards with a video message, won a total of six awards on the night, matching her haul from last year, when she set a new record for…
In a new study published today in the journal Royal Society Open Science, researchers present a reconstruction of the limb muscles of Thecodontosaurus, detailing the anatomy of the most important muscles involved in movement. Thecodontosaurus was a small to medium sized two-legged dinosaur that roamed around what today is the United Kingdom during the Triassic period (around 205 million years ago). This dinosaur was one of the first ever to be discovered and named by scientists, in 1836, but it still surprises scientists with new information about how the earliest dinosaurs lived and evolved. Antonio Ballell, PhD student in Bristol’s School of Earth Sciences and…
“The Horizon of Khufu” is an immersive virtual reality experience recently launched in Stratford, London. Spanning a vast area of 1,000 square metres, it transports you back 4,500 years to ancient Egypt and the awe-inspiring Great Pyramid of Giza, which served as the tomb of Pharaoh Khufu. This remarkable experience was crafted by Excurio, a virtual reality studio collaborating with Peter Der Manuelian, a distinguished Egyptology professor at Harvard University. Upon our arrival, we were equipped with virtual reality headsets and backpacks, followed by a thorough health and safety briefing. After adjusting the headsets for comfort, we embarked on an…
Archaeologists in China have made the exciting discovery of a sprawling cemetery from the Warring States period, over 2,200 years ago. They have excavated many ancient tombs and more than 500 artifacts, including a fine array of weapons. This remarkable find sheds new light on ancient Chinese life, and notably the enigmatic Chu culture. The discovery has been made near Dengcheng village in Xiangyang, Hubei Province, where teams from the Hubei Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, together with the Xiangyang Municipal Institute, have unearthed the Warring States period cemetery dating back to 475–221 BC, a time of intense historical significance…

BMW is working on its next generation of electric vehicles, known collectively as the Neue Klasse (German for “New Class”), and the first are coming up soon. They will be a sedan and an SUV, sitting in the same segments as the 3-Series and X3. The SUV enters production in 2025 and the sedan is expected to follow shortly after. Previously it was thought the sedan would come first. BMW previewed the sedan last year with the Vision Neue Klasse concept, and on Thursday the automaker provided a preview of the SUV with the Vision Neue Klasse X concept. Anyone…
Though it isn’t set to go on sale until the end of the year, the new 2012 Honda CR-V crossover has been previewed in concept form and it’s safe to say the upcoming production version will closely resemble the lines seen here today. It looks as though we’ll get a fairly conventional crossover design for the new CR-V, though there’s a chance a third-row seating option will be offered this time ‘round to give it more ammunition against its closest rival, the Toyota RAV4, which currently offers the option. Despite its age, the current CR-V remains a top seller in…
McLaren’s successor to the P1 hypercar will be revealed at the end of the year with gullwing doors and a V-8-based plug-in hybrid powertrain, Automotive News (subscription required) reported on Wednesday, citing dealer sources. The described powertrain is similar to what McLaren used for the P1, though a lot more power than the P1’s 903 hp is expected. Roof-mounted gullwing doors would be new for McLaren whose cars have traditionally featured doors mounted near the base of the A-pillars, a design known as butterfly doors. The new car, which carries the P18 codename, will be the next installment in McLaren’s…
Ford has plans to exclusively sell electric vehicles in Europe by the end of the decade, and we now have spy shots of one of the automaker’s upcoming EVs being developed for the Old Continent. The spy shots show a prototype for an electric version of the Ford Puma, a subcompact crossover that went on sale in Europe in 2019 and was given a mid-cycle refresh last year. The electric version, which may be called the Puma Gen-E, is expected to debut later this year. Don’t look for it in U.S. showrooms, though. Ford has no plans to offer any…
