CES—the Consumer Electronics Show— starts this week, and we’re sure to see a ton of AI, new TVs and computers, but it would also be nice to see tech that makes life easier.
The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is always the place to see what’s coming for the year in tech and electronics. It’s usually full of amazing new products like VCRs and virtual reality headsets, but there are also products that are just too weird to make it. This year, I’d love to see more of the things that make life easier.
We know we will see giant TVs and stunning home entertainment systems. Those are a given. But do you really need another TV or a TV that takes up an entire wall of your home? How does that make life better? Sure, it will make Super Bowl LIX a lot more exciting to watch, but it’ll also drain your bank account.
We’ll also probably see new computers, monitors, and peripherals. Gaming computers always get a bump at CES, and it would be super cool to see another keyboard that’s as useful as the Logitech POP ICON Keys has been for me this past year. I’m not sure how it would be possible to top 15 programmable keys that work with AI services and so much more, but hey, there are great minds out there working on CES products, so maybe?
What I’d really like to see come out of CES this year are things that make my life easier.
Robots will be a fixture at CES. Yes, robots. And, surely, they’ve made some advancements in those too. What will be showcased will likely be well beyond vacuuming or laundry folding robots that take those chores off your hands or cooking robots that never overcook your steak in a restaurant. But if I could imagine a robot I’d like to see at CES this year, it might be one that would take over all the menial tasks that eat up so much of my life. I’m not sure what that might look like or even if I would trust it, but hey, it’s a thought.
To be more realistic, what I’d really like to see come out of CES this year are things that make my life easier. Earbuds that don’t get lost, computers that are platform agnostic and work with whatever devices I already have, and maybe even smart home devices that are easy to install, don’t require a different app for every brand, and that all work together no matter who manufactured them.
If I’m really being fanciful, I’d love to see tech that can compose an email to my team and lay out a project plan for me from just my notes, or that can design an optimized schedule for my hectic life that leaves me time to paint and putter around in the craft room. Or maybe, just maybe, something that tells me how to be healthier in a way that fits within my current lifestyle while also ensuring that I don’t get overwhelmed by all the changing information being thrown at me.
Oh, wait… that’s AI. And I’m certain we’ll be seeing a lot of that at CES this year. The only question is, what form will it take?
