For the first time in NASCAR history, an electric vehicle will serve as the official pace car for the Daytona 500.
Chevrolet has announced that the 2025 Blazer EV SS will take on pacing duties for this year’s race, set to run on Feb. 16 at Florida’s Daytona International Speedway. This also marks the first time a Blazer has been chosen for the honor.
While Chevy has yet to reveal who will be behind the wheel, the Blazer EV SS pace car will utilize its stock dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain, which delivers an impressive 615 hp. The midsize crossover also boasts a 0-60 mph time of just 3.4 seconds and an estimated range of 283 miles. Modifications for its role as the pace car include custom graphics and embedded strobe lighting to ensure visibility on the track.
The Daytona 500 is the highlight of NASCAR’s premier Cup Series and one of the most anticipated events in motorsports. Chevrolet is set to make additional waves during the event by unveiling the Blazer EV.R NASCAR EV prototype. This prototype was developed in collaboration with NASCAR to explore the potential of an electric racing series.
Ford presented its own Mustang Mach-E NASCAR EV prototype in January, signaling its intention to support NASCAR in its electric racing series endeavor.
The 2025 Blazer EV SS, first revealed in 2022, is now available for order. It is priced from $61,995, including a $1,395 destination charge, and will begin arriving in showrooms during the first quarter of the year.
