CHICO, Calif. – Chico State students are volunteering across the community to honor Cesar Chavez Day.
There were over 100 students who helped in different parts of Chico and Paradise, including at the Chico State Compost Garden.
The Associated Students and Community Action Volunteers in Education hosted their annual event ‘Cats in the Community’ for students who want to help give back in honor of Cesar Chavez Day. It’s something that happens every year.
“It’s an opportunity every spring semester for students that are around campus or involved with CAVE to give fellowship back to the community at different locations,” Chico State student Katie Wilken said. “We are here at the AS Sustainability Compost Garden, and it’s just a memory of Caesar Chavez and how much he gave back to other people, and so it’s our chance to be able to continue that on.”
Wilken told Action News Now that she had been a part of the event several times before. She said she liked to help bring awareness to sustainability, composting and being a part of the community.
It’s not just Chico; one volunteer told Action News Now that there were also student volunteers planting trees in Paradise.
