Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, announced the introduction of a new instructor training program for military training centers.
This was reported by Ukrinform, citing Syrskyi’s post on Facebook.
According to the Commander-in-Chief, he held the traditional monthly meeting on improving the quality of training in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
As the general noted, an analysis was conducted on the preparation level of graduates from military training centers who underwent an extended basic military training course lasting 1.5 months (instead of 30 days, as it was previously).
“At this stage, we have feedback from brigades on the improvement of the readiness of recruits. We will continue implementing this positive practice and strengthen it with an additional adaptive course in military units,” said Syrskyi.
At the same time, he mentioned that the level of psychological training still needs improvement. In light of this, the Commander-in-Chief emphasized the need to strengthen this aspect of training.
He also informed about the implementation of a new instructor training program, “with an increase in the duration of their training from 1 to 2 months, as well as strengthening the content of this program and the methodology of instructor training.”
According to Syrskyi, there is positive feedback on another experiment — conducting basic general military training (BGMT) in combat units.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine listened to the report from the commander of one of the mechanized brigades on the progress of BGMT by recruits at its rear training grounds.
He stressed that conducting the BGMT course at the brigade’s training sites allows for a higher level of personnel preparation. This enables quality control on site, enhances skills in working with weapons and military equipment, improves team cohesion, promotes military traditions, and significantly reduces the occurrence of unauthorized absence during training.
“This is another example of successful experience, which should be implemented on a permanent basis. We will scale this up,” said Syrskyi.
In addition, the Commander-in-Chief listened to suggestions and issues that arise during the training process. Specifically, this concerns the staffing of instructor groups in brigades, strengthening their work, and involving them in training centers.
As Syrskyi reported, the suggestions were taken into account in the 5th edition of the BGMT program, developed with the participation of his deputy, Colonel Oleksandr Apostol. The Commander-in-Chief noted that he is in close interaction with commanders on the ground, which allows for identifying mistakes, implementing valuable proposals, and scaling up the best practices from brigades and training centers.
Syrskyi emphasized that, traditionally, the Air Assault Forces are among the leaders in training.
The Commander-in-Chief expressed gratitude to the service members and units for their fruitful work in this area and outlined tasks for further strengthening personnel training.
As reported by Ukrinform, according to Deputy Minister of Defense, Brigadier General of Justice Serhii Melnyk, basic general military training will consist of two elements: theoretical and practical courses.
