Europe is prepared to take the lead in providing security guarantees for Ukraine, according to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
He stated following an emergency meeting on Ukraine held in Paris on Monday, February 17, Ukrinform reports, citing Le Figaro.
“Europe is ready and willing to step up and lead in providing security guarantees for Ukraine,” Rutte said, adding that this was his key takeaway from the meeting, which was convened at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron.
Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that discussions regarding Germany’s potential involvement in a future peacekeeping mission in Ukraine were premature.
An informal meeting organized by President Macron took place in Paris, focusing on Ukraine and European security.
