These three new e-bikes are designed to mimic the Ford vehicles that are their namesake.
Car manufacturers that make e-bikes aren’t new, and Ford is the latest to enter the arena.
On Wednesday, Ford announced a partnership with n+, a cycling technology company, to produce three new e-bikes based on the Ford Mustang and Bronco brands. The new bikes—one Bronco and two Mustangs—are expected to have features that mimic the vehicles they’re named for.
The company calls the Mustang e-bikes “adrenaline chasers.” There are plans for a standard Mustang e-bike and a 60th Anniversary Edition. Both will have 750W hub-mounted motors with 85 Nm of torque, the ability to reach up to 28 MPH, and a battery that’s expected to provide 60 miles of range. Ford also mentioned that the charging time for those batteries is about 3.5 hours.
Other notable features of the Mustang-branded e-bikes include Pirelli Angel GT tires, running lights, and a full-color LCD panel mounted on the handlebars. The company also said the 60th Anniversary Edition would “be available exclusively through Ford dealers and in limited quantities.”
The Ford Bronco edition e-bike, which Ford says is “inspired by the rugged performance and design of the Bronco SUV,” is very similar in specs. It has a 750W hub motor, 28 MPH speed, a 60-mile range, and a 3.5-hour charge time. It also has an LCD panel color display.
The only real difference between the Bronco and the Mustang versions seems to be in the tires—the Bronco has Pirelli Scorpion Enduro M Hardwall tires for off-roading—and the saddle. The Bronco-branded e-bike has a motorcycle-style saddle, which, ostensibly, should be more comfortable for longer rides.
The Mustang e-bike starts at $4,000, whereas the Bronco version starts at $4,500. Both have the option to choose a different color—the Bronco’s standard color is Area 51, and the Mustang’s is Carbonized Gray Metallic—for an additional $390. You can preorder the bikes now from the Ford e-bikes website, but don’t expect to receive the bike until “later this year.”
