Gmail’s new summary cards and “Happening soon” section make it easier to find important information in your inbox.
We all know the feeling: trying to find that one important email in a sea of junk can be a real hassle. Gmail’s latest update is here to make life a little less stressful with a big upgrade to its summary cards feature, designed to help you keep track of purchases, events, bills, and other plans.
Gmail’s summary cards have been giving quick highlights at the top of certain emails for years, so you’re probably already familiar with it. Now, according to a press release sent to Lifewire, they’re getting a major refresh. Not only will the cards have a new look, but they’ll also be a lot more useful. Use them to add events to your calendar, set reminders for bills, and find information more easily with new spots like the “Happening soon” section of your inbox and even in searches.
These updated cards pull key info from related emails, updating in real-time so you always know what’s happening. For example, purchase summary cards let you track packages and see order details, while event cards ensure you won’t forget a dinner reservation or concert. Bill cards help ensure you pay on time, and travel cards have everything from flight check-ins to hotel check-out times in one spot.
Actions like “Get directions,” “Track package,” or “Mark as paid” are right there on the card, so you don’t have to dig around to get things done. The “Happening soon” section will show the most timely updates at the top of your inbox, like upcoming deliveries or events, so it will be incredibly easy to see what’s next.
The updated purchase summary cards are starting to roll out now on Android and iOS, with event, bill, and travel cards and the “Happening soon” section coming in the next few months.
