Hopefully, the new Collections tab will make it easier to find your stuff.
If you’re looking for your Google Photos Library tab these days, it might not be there. The company is rolling out a new tab to replace it: Collections.
The feature will appear on your Android or iPhone starting today and continue over the next couple of weeks, says the Google Photos Community page. I see the Collections tab on my Android device, but not yet on my iPhone, for example.
The company says that its heard from user feedback that finding shared albums was difficult, so they put them into the new Collections tab under, logically, Albums. You can then switch between All, Shared with me, and My albums to find the stuff you want.
Favorites and Trash show up at the top of the Collections tab now, and two other tiles will appear featuring the photos and media y ou navigate to most, says Google. The one thing that won’t show up at the top of the Collections view, though, is your Locked Folder. Whew.
The company says it wants to streamline finding content, so in addition to the stuff that used to be in the Library tab, you’ll also get People & pets, Places, and Documents.
Some other utilities have been moved, says the company, since there’s no longer a Utilities folder in the Photos app. Locked Folder will show up at the bottom of Collections, Import photos will be at the top if you tap Create+, then find Import from other places under Get photos.
Making new stuff is a breeze, too: “At the top, tap Create + and then the type of creation you want to make, such as a new album, collage, highlight video, cinematic photo, or animation,” Google writes.
You can archive pictures from any photo’s More menu and then manage photo frames on your Account profile. Simply hit the Photos settings button, then Apps & devices to find the Photo frames button.
