The Trump campaign “no longer thinks New Hampshire is winnable” and is “pulling back” from the swing state, according to a leaked email from a top volunteer.
Former Republican vice chair in Massachusetts Tom Mountain declared “the campaign has determined that New Hampshire is no longer a battleground state,” according to an email seen by the Boston Globe. Instead, he advised supporters to switch tact and focus on Pennsylvania.
Meanwhile, Kamala Harris and Joe Biden appeared in lock-step at their first official joint rally on Monday since the vice president stepped onto the Democratic ticket.
Harris also appeared in person in both Michigan and Pennsylvania on Monday, and deployed several surrogates – including her running mate Tim Walz and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff – across battleground states on her behalf.
In contrast to Harris’s Labor Day blitz, her campaign team accused Donald Trump of “dodging labor on Labor Day” after the Republican’s campaign was limited to a single virtual event.
New polling from ABC/Ipsos shows Harris leading Trump in terms of favorability with 46 percent seeing Harris favorably versus 33% for Trump. She also leads him 53 percent to 47 percent when asked who is more qualified.

Trump continues to claim Harris lied about working at McDonald’s
Harris has repeatedly mentioned her brief stint holding down a summer job at the fast food joint while at college since she ascended to the top of the Democratic party’s ticket.
And, for some reason, it appears to have gotten under Trump’s skin, as Myriam Page and Alex Woodward report.

Trump claims Harris has problem in New Hampshire after leak says his campaign no longer sees state as winnable
Tom Mountain, a former Republican party vice chair in Massachusetts, sent an email to volunteers claiming that “the campaign has determined that New Hampshire is no longer a battleground state,” The Boston Globe reported.
Now Donald Trump has indirectly responded to the report, making a pitch to his supporters there and claiming (with no evidence) it is the Harris campaign in trouble in the Granite State.
Here’s what he wrote on Truth Social:
Comrade Kamala Harris sees there are problems for her campaign in New Hampshire because of the fact that they disrespected it in their primary and never showed up. Additionally, the cost of living in New Hampshire is through the roof, their energy bills are some of highest in the country, and their housing market is the most unaffordable in history. I protected New Hampshire’s First-In-The-Nation Primary and ALWAYS will! To my friends in New Hampshire, get out and vote TRUMP. Together, we will make your State and America Strong, Safe, and Prosperous AGAIN!
And here’s Rhian Lubin’s report on the leak:

Judge orders pause on Trump using song ‘Hold On, I’m Coming’ at rallies
A federal judge has ruled that Donald Trump and his campaign must stop using the song “Hold On, I’m Coming” written by the late Isaac Hayes.
The decision came after the estate of the R&B artist and songwriter sought an emergency injunction to stop the Trump campaign from using the song at campaign events. The estate alleges no approval was sought.
The ruling was made by Judge Thomas Thrash Jr in Atlanta, Georgia: “I do order Trump and his campaign to not use the song without proper license.”
A motion by the Hayes estate to force the Trump campaign to take down any previously recorded uses of the song was denied.
The 1966 song, co-written by Hayes and David Porter, was performed by Sam Moore and Dave Prater.
Hayes died in 2008 aged 65 after suffering a stroke.

Inside Harris and Trump’s very different debate prep
Donald Trump and Kamala Harris’s approaches to debate prep are, it seems, as different as their politics.
The vice president has not appeared on the debate stage since 2020 when she faced off with then-vice president Mike Pence, where one of the most memorable moments came from the fly that landed on his head for two minutes and subsequently went viral.
Rhian Lubin reports on how the candidates are preparing.

George Clooney calls Biden most ‘selfless’ president since George Washington
In an appearance at the 2024 Venice Film Festival on Sunday September 1 – where he is promoting his new film Wolfs with co-star Brad Pitt – the actor was asked about the “impact” of the damning op-ed he wrote for The New York Times titled “I Love Joe Biden, But We Need a New Nominee”.
The essay is seen as one of the key turning points as momentum built to urge the president to step aside in favor of a younger candidate.

Trump mocks US authorities for seizing Maduro’s plant
Donald Trump has mocked US authorities for seizing a plane belonging to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who has led the country’s authoritarian government since 2013.
The DOJ said that the aircraft, a Dassault Falcon 900EX equivalent to the country’s Air Force One, had been seized in the Dominican Republic on Monday and transported to Florida. Officials claim the plane’s purchase violated US export control and sanctions laws.
Following the seizure, photos appeared to show federal agents collecting boxes of evidence from the aircraft.
The US has imposed sanctions in the Latin American country for years and has seized dozens of luxury vehicles bound for Venezuela.
Nevertheless, Trump appeared to scoff at the enforcement of such sanctions, denigrating American efforts to hold an authoritarian regime to account. The former president wrote on Truth Social:
Maduro’s plane has just been seized by the U.S. That’s OK, he can now go out and get a much bigger and better one with all the money we pay to Venezuela for oil that we don’t need. We have more LIQUID GOLD than any other Nation. HOW STUPID ARE OUR “LEADERS?” WE ARE A LAUGHING STOCK ALL OVER THE WORLD!!! DJT
Here’s Michelle Del Rey’s report on the seizure.
