Snapchat‘s My AI chatbot allows users to chat about virtually anything, but people can also delete their chat history to ensure privacy. Snapchat launched the ChatGPT-powered My AI chatbot in February 2023, but it’s currently only available to Snapchat+ subscribers. That, however, could change in the near future, with CEO Evan Spiegel saying that the company wants to make the feature available to all users going forward.
As explained by Snapchat, users can delete their My AI chat history from the app in a few simple steps. To get started, tap on the profile icon (or Bitmoji) in the top-left corner of the screen, and then hit the ‘Settings’ symbol (gear cog) in the top-right. Now scroll down and select ‘Clear Data.’ Finally, tap ‘Clear My Chat AI Queries’ and confirm when asked. This should delete the entire chat that the user had with the AI chatbot from that account.
Snapchat Records And Stores All My AI Chat History
Although My AI chat history can easily be deleted from a device, it is worth noting that all chats are recorded by Snapchat, and deleting the data on the app will not get it removed from the company’s servers. According to Snap, the parent company of Snapchat, the data is not only used to improve My AI “and other Snap products,” but also to serve targeted ads. Since My AI chat data is not private, users will do well to refrain from sharing any private information with the chatbot.
In terms of what to expect from My AI, Snapchat says that it has been customized to ensure that the information it provides is not harmful to its users. According to the company, the AI tool uses the same safeguards that are used across Snapchat. For starters, the chatbot avoids responses that are “violent, hateful, sexually explicit, or otherwise dangerous,” making it suitable for younger users. The chatbot is also expected to refrain from perpetuating harmful biases against people from different backgrounds.
Some of the other safeguards the app employs involve the blocking of drug keywords and slang. In addition, if Snapchat users search for topics related to mental health issues, they will be served resources from expert organizations. The tool, called ‘Here for You,’ is available across Snapchat, and also in chats with My AI. Snapchat also says it is working on adding new features that will allow parents more control and provide them with additional information about what their kids are chatting about with My AI.
