These new projectors are designed to meet specific needs, but they’re stylishly made with price-points that fit most budgets.
On Friday, XGIMI announced a new lineup of home and portable projectors that target a variety of home theater needs. I saw these projectors at an XGIMI-sponsored event in New York City, and I was impressed.
The new lineup includes the MoGo 3 Pro, The Elfin Flip, the Horizon S series, and the Aura 2, which is an ultra-short throw projector. The quality and design of these projectors make them an attractive addition to your home theater, and the pricing is reasonable compared to similar models from other manufacturers.
I wasn’t able to decide if the MoGo 3 Pro or the Aura 2 were my personal favorites from the lineup. They’re very different projectors with different uses, but both can project impressive pictures. The MoGo 3 Pro is a portable projector with a stylish capsule design. It’s only slightly larger than a cup of coffee and weighs only 2.4 pounds. It’s portable and has an attached wrist strap that highlights that portability.
What’s best about this unit, though, is that it’s multi-functional. It features a built-in Harmon-Kardon speaker and a rotating base. In one configuration, you can have the capsule play music and synchronize lights to that music. It can also function as a night light if you need it. It also has features like auto-keystone, 1080P resolution, and a USB-C port you can connect to a portable power bank if you want to use it where there are no electrical outlets.
The Aura 2 is a whole other class of projectors. This one is designed to look like an elegant speaker in your home theater lineup, but in reality, its ultra-short throw capabilities allow you to project an image up to 150 inches from just inches away from the wall (it has a 0.177:1 ratio). It also has built-in Harmon-Kardon speakers and Dual Light 2.0 technology with a brightness of up to 2300 lumens, so you can even use it in a well-lit room. With auto-keystone features, wall flatness improvement, and wall color adaptation, the projection from this unit is impressive. Oh, it also has an automatic dust cover that slides closed when you turn the projector off, so dust on the lens is never a concern.
The Elfin Flip is a compact, long-throw projector with a unique design. The outer frame sits perpendicular to your surface, but the projector flips out (hence the name) when you’re ready to use it at up to 150 degrees of tilt. It has 1080P resolution, 400 lumens of brightness, and two 3W speakers built-in. The Elfin Flip is powered by WebOS with built-in Netflix support and has auto-keystone adjustments and screen alignments. It’s also XGIMI’s most affordable projector,
Last but definitely not least is XGIMI’s Horizon Series of projectors, including the Horizon S Pro and Horizon S Max. These projectors have Dual Light Technology 2.0, which combines a Tri-Color Laser with LEDs for a brighter, more accurate picture that utilizes Dolby Vision (and IMAX Ehnaced in the Horizon S Max). It offers 1700 lumens of brightness, which XGIMI says makes it 30 percent brighter than its predecessor.
The Horizon Series has a built-in stand that offers 260 degrees horizontal and 135 degrees vertical, a 1000000:1 contrast ratio, and two 12W Harmon-Kardon speakers. Pricing on the Horizon Series starts at $1299, and it will be available to order soon. You can sign up on XGIMI’s website to be notified when it’s available.
