Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction and Minister for Communities and Territories Development, Oleksii Kuleba, has instructed the State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine to complete housing reconstruction in Borodianka by the autumn of 2025.
According to Ukrinform, Kuleba reported this on Telegram after visiting Borodianka with the head of the restoration agency, Serhii Sukhomlyn, to inspect ongoing construction work.
According to Kuleba, the agency is currently working on 20 apartment buildings in the town, as well as restoring administrative buildings, a school, and a cultural center. Some projects are still in the design phase.
“The pace of reconstruction does not meet the needs of the people. I have given clear instructions to accelerate the work. By fall 2025, residents must be able to return to their homes,” Kuleba wrote.
He also emphasized the importance of memorializing sites where Russian forces committed some of the worst atrocities.
The damage to Borodianka’s infrastructure from the full-scale Russian invasion is estimated to be worth $148.4 million.
In 2022, Borodianka was on one of the main routes of Russia’s advance toward Kyiv. The town was occupied in March 2022 and liberated on April 1. The central area was almost completely destroyed by Russian shelling and airstrikes.
