Earlier this year, the BMW M4 CS debuted for 2025 with 543 horsepower, a $124,675 starting price in the US, and a limited production run. At the time of the reveal, BMW only said that production would be limited to a single model year, which is its way of keeping secret the total planned production numbers. But thanks to a leak by BMW Spain, as reported by BMW Blog, we now know that the production run will be limited to 1,700 examples globally.
That makes the G82 M4 CS almost twice as numerous as the F82 variant. As for the production numbers of its four-door M3 CS sibling, CarBuzz was told that BMW is “estimating around 2,000 units in total,” spread among global markets. America should get a large portion.
How The Numbers Compare
BMW has adjusted production numbers after the fact before – the unrivaled 1 Series M Coupe was initially limited to 2,700 units but 6,309 were ultimately produced. These days, however, production lines operate on such strict schedules that expanding the run is unlikely. It’s also worth noting that there are far more special editions these days than ever before, and most automakers would rather introduce a slightly different trim than produce more of the same.

According to the report, Spain will only get access to 25 examples of the M4 CS, but since the US is one of the largest markets for M cars globally, we expect several hundred to make their way to American soil. Interestingly, none of these special editions are the rarest of the current crop – the Edition 50 Jahre is even more scarce with a total run of 500 units, despite only offering cosmetic enhancements.
More Special-Edition M Cars Are Inevitable
Limited-production sports cars will always be in high demand, and BMW will always aim to meet such appetites. The M Division even briefly considered producing an M2 CSL for the previous generation, and several other awesome M cars narrowly missed production, too, so there’s no lack of desire to keep exploring the potential of any model. For those who missed out on an allocation for an M4 CS, perhaps the upcoming M2 CS will fill the void. According to unconfirmed leaks, the G87 Competition Sport model will produce as much as 525 hp – just 18 hp less than the M4 CS. If you’d rather have something bigger, you could wait for the latest M5 to get special treatment, but since it was only just revealed a couple of months back, you’ll be waiting a long time.
