Key Takeaways
- All-electric Mercedes-AMG C63 sedan spied for the first time.
- Concept-inspired styling appears to be in the cards, along with aggressive aero elements and sleek new lighting design.
- Expected launch in late 2025; C63 EV may surpass current hybrid model’s output.
We’ve just driven the all-new 2024 Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance, and while its 2.0-liter turbocharged hybrid powertrain’s 671 horsepower impresses, the small-capacity engine simply does not stir our souls as the old V8 did. Despite numerous negative reactions to this mill, enthusiasts will be displeased to know that Affalterbach is already hard at work testing an all-electric replacement, as seen in new spy shots.
The electric C63 will slot in far below the AMG GT 4-Door EV that was also recently spied in prototype form, but it appears to share some styling elements with the bigger sedan. Let’s take a closer look and try to figure out what the new C63 will be like.
Concept-Inspired Styling
Like the abovementioned AMG GT development mule, this prototype is wearing pre-production headlight units that seem to resemble those seen on Tesla’s Model Y, but when these placeholders are replaced with the finalized design, we predict that we’ll see lighting accents in the shape of the Three-pointed Star, just like on the Mercedes Vision AMG Concept. We also see aggressive canards on either side of the lower front fascia. Formerly reserved for extreme models bearing the Black Series badge, these aero enhancements suggest that Merc wants a more intimidating look for its BMW M3 alternative.

That being said, the front bumper is not a production unit, and neither is the rear fascia, which is expected to adopt a full-width light bar arcing across the trunk’s leading edge in a manner not dissimilar to the Kia EV6. Large brake calipers, flush-fitting door handles, a trunk spoiler, and a steeply angled rear overhang are also evident, as well as a wider track and lower stance than regular C-Class EV prototypes we’ve spotted.
C63 May Arrive Next Year
Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Kallenius recently confirmed that the C-Class EV will arrive in 2026. It’s possible that the C63 will be launched first, potentially in late 2025, and if so, we suspect that it may be sold alongside the current hybrid model, which was only unveiled just under two years ago. As for output, the additional weight of more batteries could require AMG to push the C63 beyond the hybrid’s 671 hp, but this remains to be seen.

CEO Michael Schiebe has said that while AMG will eventually go all-electric, the grumbly V8 will stick around for a few more years at least.
Those wanting their V8 fix will likely have to opt for two fewer doors, as recent CLE 63 sightings suggest this won’t be going hybrid. It’s also worth noting that Mercedes still intends to develop V8s for the foreseeable future, but it just doesn’t seem to be in the cards for the C63 any longer.
