In August 2023, Ford revealed the Mustang GTD as a street-legal supercar with one clear goal: achieve a sub-7-minute lap time at the Nürburgring. The Blue Oval announced it had achieved the feat at the beginning of the last month, and that’s important to the company because 2024 marked 60 years of Mustang.
While an anniversary package for the regular Mustang is cool, setting America’s first-ever sub-7 at the Green Hell calls for a much bigger celebration, and as usual with low-volume cars and remarkable achievements, there’s now a special edition that honors what the Mustang GTD achieved last year, as well as the legacy carried by the Mustangs that came before. Meet the Mustang GTD Spirit of America.
Loads Of Exposed Carbon Fiber, But The Stripes Are The Key Highlight
You can see the unpainted weave of the carbon finer on the front splitter, rear diffuser, and wing, the later of which has a large MUSTANG wordmark on the underside. In this writer’s humble and inconsequential opinion, the car would have looked a little classier without the big branding on the wing, but on the other hand, it does add a little bit of a motorsport feel to the car, and the GTD was spawned from the Mustang GT3, so it makes sense from that perspective.

Like the wing mirrors and brake calipers, the endplates are painted Race Red, but at least the former can be had in plain exposed carbon fiber. Then there are the racing stripes in Race Red and Lightning Blue, calling to mind the Mustang tribar that debuted in 1964. As standard, The Spirit of America comes with the Performance pack, which adds dive planes and a larger front splitter to the front end, special underbody flaps, and an opening rear wing with DRS. The interior also gets a little special tratment.
It’s Still A Mustang Inside, But The GTD Spirit Of America Feels A Little More Special
Inside this special version of the most extreme Mustang to date are yet more red, white, and blue accents. Black Onyx upholstery dominates the seating, which is trimmed in leather with Dinamica suede inserts. Race Red gradient stripes run down each seat, with Re-Entry White providing a little bit of contrast. The lighter hue is also found on the door cards, while Victory Blue contrast stitching ties it all together.
