Apple’s Pride collection drops May 22, with proceeds being donated to LGBTQIA+ community advocacy organizations.
It’s time! Apple’s annual Pride Watch band and dynamic WatchOS, iOS, and iPadOS wallpapers are set to release on May 22.
In an announcement on the Apple site on Monday, the company detailed the design of the new Braided Solo Loop band, which the company said was inspired by multiple Pride flags. The new iOS, iPadOS, and WatchOS are also being released, but the company says, “For the first time, the Pride watch face and wallpapers can be customized to showcase a spectrum of colors representing the vibrancy and diversity of LGBTQ+ communities.”
The Pride Watch band leans more to fluorescent colors this year, with pink, light blue, and white hues that signify the vibrancy of the LGBTQIA+ communities. Also present in this year’s band are brown, black hues that “symbolize Black, Hispanic, and Latin communities, as well as those impacted by HIV/AIDS.”
Apple says the Pride Collection helps to support LGBTQIA+ community advocacy through donations to agencies like ILGA World, the Human Rights Campaign, and many other local, national, and global organizations.
In addition to the Pride Watch band, the collection also includes the Pride Radiance WatchOS, iOS, and iPadOS Pride wallpaper. This year, Apple says those wallpapers can be customized by choosing the colors that you want to highlight in the design, in which beams of light against a dark background “represent the everlasting impact of LGBTQ+ activism and its role in illuminating the path to greater equality for future generations.”
The Pride Edition Braided Solo Loop Watch band will be available to order from Apple on May 22 and will cost $99. The Watch band will fit 41mm and 45mm and work with Apple Watch SE and Apple Watch Series 4 or later. The Pride Radiance wallpaper for WatchOS, iOS, and iPadOS will be available “soon” but no exact availability was mentioned. You’ll be able to access the Radiance wallpapers from the Apple Watch App, on the App Store, or directly from Apple’s website.
