Less typing means less chance that keystroke loggers can capture your personal data and private information.
Proton has been on a roll lately, delivering new privacy-focused features like discreet icons for the VPN app and secure link sharing for Proton Pass. Today’s updates again target the password manager.
Like other password managers, Proton Pass is making it easier to autofill form data. The new Identities feature, detailed today in Proton’s blog post, lets you pre-write your name, email, address, etc., just once and then unload it into a form when necessary.
Proton’s new Identities feature lets you fill out forms way faster than before. All the information you’re used to writing manually when asked, like payment details, gender, phone number, and even your social security number and government ID, can be stored safely in Proton Pass as part of an Identity. Multiple Identities are supported, you can share the data from an Identity through a secure link, and all the data is encrypted just like your other Proton Pass details. Paying users also have access to custom fields.
Another convenient feature now available in Proton Pass is biometric authentication, which lets you unlock the app with just your fingerprint. You’ll recognize this if you use the mobile app. Now, it’s available from the desktop app if your computer has a fingerprint reader; turn it on in Settings > Security. If your fingerprint doesn’t register properly, you can always fall back to entering the PIN.
Identities started rolling out to all Proton Pass users today and works on every major platform. Biometric authentication is unlocked only for paying subscribers.
