Editing text in a PDF document is pretty great for all of us.
Mac-only Photoshop competitor Pixelmator Pro just released a new update. Version 3.5.8 now offers text editing in PDFs the same way you edit text layers in regular documents. Plus, the new update lets you do the same thing in the PDFs Apple makes in Safari, Keynote, Pages, and the like.
In addition, Pixelmator Pro will now make it easy to create customizable outlines around text layers, as well as a new collection of grid-like templates called bentos, which are great for laying out a variety of pictures in one image, as you might see in a new product or app release.
Pixelmator Pro already works with vector PDFs, letting you import items like shapes, text, and images as separate layers. Now you can edit the text layers just like any other text in a Pixelmator document. The app extracts the usually non-editable text imports and analyzes its font, formatting, and colors. Even if you don’t have the font on your Mac, you can still change it in Pixelmator Pro.
The new system makes importing Apple-based PDFs much easier and smoother than before, promises the company, and will even let you use Apple-centric fonts like SF Pro.
The Style tool has also been updated, making it even easier to create and edit custom outlines around your text layers.
“You now have the option to add strokes inside, center, or outside of the text, choose from various stroke ends and corners, and even add dashed strokes to your text,” the company wrote in its blog post.
Bento Boxes
The new update provides 12 new templates for image layouts, perfect for web or social media use. They’re called Bento Grids and everyone’s using them, like Apple in its product announcements. Now you can grab a template that looks similar and add your own imagery and text. Each template has unique color palettes, too, to match your company’s or brand’s color scheme.
