Porsche has confirmed that an electrified 911 Turbo is coming, joining the earlier-revealed hybrid 911 GTS T-Hybrid in the 992.2 lineup revamp of the iconic nameplate. The confirmation came from Deputy CEO and CFO Lutz Meschke during a conference call with journalists and analysts concerning the automaker’s not-so-stellar Q3 2024 sales results. In the same call, Meschke also shared in the same call that new combustion-powered derivatives of its upcoming EVs could be in the pipeline.
“We are absolutely confident that we’ll see a better year 2025. We have a much better product availability, also a better mix when it comes to the 911. The GTS will start [production] now in the fourth quarter and then we will have a steep ramp-up curve in the first half of 2025. And in the second half of the year [2025] also, the 911 Turbo will also start to see battery cells from Varta. From the technology point of view, the Varta cell is very stable, now that we are in the industrialization process.”

What Can We Expect From A 911 Turbo Hybrid?
Meschke was coy about sharing details about the supposed hybrid 911 Turbo, except that it will be using Varta cells – the same large-format lithium-ion round cells that power the electrified powertrain of the 911 GTS. Porsche and Varta deepened their partnership in August, with a new production facility already in the pipeline to ramp up production to be used by the upcoming 911 lineup.

The news shortly after a limited special-edition model celebrating 50 years of the 911 Turbo. But apart from the 911 Turbo hybrid, Meschke also shared that the production of the 911 Carrera GTS will start this Q4 2024, while a steep production ramp-up is expected during H1 2025. Porsche is optimistic that it will have a better year in terms of sales in 2025 with this plan, along with the arrival of the electric Macan.
