The Macan Electric marks an important change for Porsche, transforming its second best seller from gas power into an EV that brings a sporty flair to the luxury crossover SUV segment.
It marks the debut of the Volkswagen Group’s new Premium Platform Electric architecture that it will soon share with the Audi Q6 E-Tron among other EVs. Porsche outfits it with a 100-kwh battery beneath the floor with 95 kwh of usable capacity to unlock up to 315 miles of range and a minimum of 288 miles. An 800-volt electric architecture unlocks 10-80% charging in 21 minutes at a rate of up to 270 kw.

The Macan Electric rides a 113.9-inch wheelbase and is 188.9 inches long, topping the gas model by 2.4 and 2.3 inches, respectively. It has an updated look that reads as a next-generation version of the gas model rather than a new-age EV. The extra size doesn’t pay off in more space inside. It will fit four adult passengers well (as long as none of them are too tall), but Porsche calls it a 4+1 rather than a true five-seater. Cargo space also tops out at 46.5 cubic feet, down from 53.5 cubes in the existing crossover.
Porsche offers the Macan Electric as a 335-hp rear-wheel-drive base model, and three all-wheel-drive versions: the 4, 4S, and Turbo. Horsepower progresses to 402 in the 4, 509 in the 4S, and 630 in the Turbo. Like those power ratings, the 0-60 mph times top the gas version, dropping as low as 3.1 seconds for the Turbo. Like other EVs, the power is immediate and strong, and it’s accompanied by either a spaceship whir or almost complete silence.
While it’s about 1,000 pounds heavier than the gas model it replaces, the Macan Electric retains traditional Porsche handling. The battery keeps the weight low and contributes to a near-perfect 48:52 front-to-rear weight balance. Attack a corner, and you can feel the weight quickly shifting under you before the the chassis takes a set then carves through the turn. Porsche provides the equipment to give it a naturally athletic feel and offers more to give it track capability. It has a standard air suspension and adaptive dampers. The standard ground clearance is 7.3 inches, but that can drop to 6.7 or even 6.1 inches and raise to 8.8 inches based on the driving mode. Buyers can also get rear-wheel steering that can turn the rears up to 5 degrees opposite the fronts and an electronic limited-slip rear differential.

We experienced the Macan Electric Turbo model on the racetrack, where it performed admirably. Its power proved relentless, its brakes felt natural and provided strong stopping power, and its battery and motors never overheated. We did chew up the optional set of 255/40R22 front and 295/35R22 rear Pirelli P Zero Corsa summer performance tires, though.
Prices start at $77,295 for the base model and range up to $80,795 for the Macan 4, $86,895 for the 4S model, and $107,295 for the Turbo.
Will thrilling acceleration, sharp moves, track capability, and energy efficiency be enough for the Porsche Macan Electric to take home the Motor Authority Best Car To Buy 2025 award versus a pair of electric off-roaders, a luxury EV SUV, an EV hot hatch, and a quick and comfortable gas-powered German cruiser? Check back on Jan. 6 when we reveal the winner, along with the champs from our sister sites, The Car Connection and Green Car Reports.
