A tablet that acts like paper can help you focus without the distractions that come with using computers or PC-like tablets.
There’s something to be said for being completely disconnected when you’re trying to think through a problem or idea, and reMarkable has a new tablet that aims to make that process even easier.
The reMarkable Paper Pro tablet was announced via a video on the company’s YouTube channel. It’s an 11.8-inch e-ink tablet that looks and acts like paper. The company has added a new color display technology that it claims uses CMYK color without filtering, making it possible to see a wider range of colors than other color e-ink tablets, and a new front-light so you can work in dim conditions.
The larger size (which reMarkable says is 30 percent bigger than the reMarkable 2) and color display are not the only changes for the new tablet. It’s also slightly heavier than the previous generation (the reMarkable 2), and it has a 1.8 GHz quad-core Cortex-A53 processor, which reMarkable says is 40 percent faster than the previous generation tablet. There’s more memory; reMarkable bumped it from 8GB in the reMarkable 2 to 64GB in the Paper Pro. And the battery is bigger at 5,030 mAh compared to the previous 3,000 mAh.
What makes reMarable Paper Pro different from other tablets, though, is that it’s not designed to be used with your email, social media, and app store addictions. Instead, reMarkable aims to help you focus better on projects and problems that require deep, uninterrupted thought.
The company says that in a survey it conducted, about two-thirds of respondents said interruptions kept them from being productive, and about half of them said those interruptions can degrade the quality of their work. That’s where reMarkable wants to be useful—giving you space to think, brainstorm, and create without being interrupted.
The experience doesn’t come without a price tag, though. In this case, the new reMarkable Paper Pro is $579. You’ll get free shipping and a 100-day satisfaction guarantee. Oh, and the stylus (which reMarkable calls a marker) is also included.
