Classic cars can be a joy to drive. The sounds, the smells, and the tactile feel of the materials are all sensations that are hard to beat in new cars. However, the fun usually stops when the sun goes down, and you realize there’s nothing nostalgic about old headlight technology.
Ruf, a niche German sports car manufacturer that also specializes in upgrades for various Porsches, understands this issue and has developed its own modern LED lighting system for the 993-generation Porsche 911.
Ruf said the system has a plug-and-play design, making installation simple even at home. The company also said the system meets all necessary safety rules and is approved by organizations like the Society of Automotive Engineers.
Ruf also said it worked closely with Tony Hatter, the former Porsche designer who penned the 993 911 in the early 1990s, to ensure the modern lights fit the design language of the 993.

For example, in the case of the headlights, the light module is positioned in the center of the funnel with a grooved surface, just like in the original design. The light module is supplied by fellow German company Rebo Lighting & Electronics, the same company that supplies lighting for Ruf’s CTR and BTR sports cars.
According to Ruf, the high beams can light up the road nearly three times brighter than the original headlights. The new lights also illuminate the road asymmetrically (further right than left) so as not to dazzle oncoming drivers. A special coating also helps to deliver an optimized light distribution without dazzling other road users.
The complete lighting system consists of two headlights, two indicators, two foglights, two taillight clusters, and a center taillight, as well as all required mounting parts. It is available to order from Ruf’s website, priced from 9,950 euros (approximately $10,200).
