AI will soon try to keep unknown people away from the perimeter of your house.
The problem with most security systems is that they are activated after (or as) a person is breaking into your home, but SimpliSafe wants to change that.
The home security company announced Tuesday that it’s releasing a limited pilot of the Live Guard Outdoor Protection service that uses AI to detect someone approaching your home and determine if they are friend or foe. If they’re not someone you know (created a profile for), then the AI triggers an alert to a live human who can use your cameras and two-way speakers to monitor and confront the unrecognized individual. It works similarly to the indoor feature that was released last year.
“For decades, the home security industry has remained reactive, jumping into action only when a break-in is already in progress. SimpliSafe has set out to challenge this standard and to offer our customers new, more proactive ways to feel and be safe,” said Christian Cerda, Chief Executive Officer at SimpliSafe. “Live outdoor monitoring is our latest breakthrough, combining AI and advanced technology with expert monitoring professionals to stop crime before it even happens.”
To ensure that you’re not getting tons of false alarms, SimpliSafe says it has made creating profiles for ‘safe’ individuals in their security app easy. And once you create a profile for a person, the AI can then recognize them. It’s also easy to remove people if circumstances change in your life.
For now, access to this new feature is limited to SimpliSafe’s Early Access Programs participants but SimpliSafe says that it will be more widely available later this year. There’s also no mention of what the service will cost, but it will likely be an add-on to SimpliSafe’s existing subscription services.
