Key Takeaways
- Alfa Romeo is working on a new special edition in the vein of the 33 Stradale.
- The successor will be a highly limited nameplate with fewer than 100 units, taking into account the input of Club 33 owners.
- Alfa Romeo has previously said that vintage icons will inspire limited-production EVs.
It wasn’t too long ago Alfa Romeo unveiled its 33 Stradale supercar to the world, but it’s already been confirmed the company is working on its successor and turning to the Stradale’s owners for inspiration. Auto Express recently spoke with Alfa CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato at the launch of the Milano, er, Junior compact crossover, and he spilled the beans on the plans already in place to give the owners a hands-on role in choosing the brand’s future.
“The Club 33, the customers of the 33 Stradale, will choose it. I want these guys, who trusted me, to be with us in December when we will choose the next chapter. We will deliver the first 33 Stradale on or around the 17th December, and I would then like to come to you and say what we will do next, how many cars we will build, and so forth.”
– Jean-Philippe Imparato, Alfa Romeo CEO
He goes on to say the goal is another highly limited nameplate, with the aim of under 100 produced, and he wants to know from 33 buyers what kind of looks, features, and options they want to see. He added that he expects a successor to the 33 Stradale to be built (i.e., a supercar) before more attainable classics from Alfa’s past, like the GTV or Spider, are considered for limited production.
Customers Dictate The Future
This continues Alfa Romeo’s trend of meeting with its future clients to choose the direction of the brand. When the 33 was still in development, it showed the project underway to a select group of highly involved and affluent individuals in hopes of stirring interest. The plan worked perfectly, as the model sold out all examples in secrecy then and there, and from there, all the brand had to do was deliver on its promise. Seeing as the actual debut of the supercar sent waves through the automotive world, it makes sense the company would turn its attention back to the same formula.
“There are tons of things we can look at – Disco Volante, 6C, Montreal – but only the Club 33 will choose with us the next step.”
Alfa’s US CEO told us there are several iconic possibilities when describing the Fuoriserie bespoke division and its future ambitions, but whatever is chosen first won’t see the light of day for a few years at least. Fortunately, the news that work has begun means we can expect to see something this decade.
Electrification Likely But Combustion Send-Off Possible
Whatever is decided on, electrification is certainly going to be a significant part of it. The company currently plans to unveil only EVs by 2025, ceasing production of all combustion engines by 2027. Seeing as though we probably won’t see a 33 successor until 2027, an EV seems likely unless those high-end customers are able to convince Alfa Romeo to make low-volume exceptions.

Alfa Romeo’s CEO has provided insight into the Giulia and several future models, including hinting at a potential Duetto revival.
It’s also possible that with the recent cooling of the EV market, the brand may shift its electrification targets a bit further, and could pivot in the meantime to more hybrid models like many other brands are doing. If the Tonale PHEV becomes a smash hit, Alfa could be compelled to consider more hybridization. Whatever happens, we’ll let you know as it does.
