Why yes, you can lay down and watch that movie on your Meta Quest 3!
A new lying-down view update from Meta for the Quest 3 is adding one more (relaxed) way to experience VR.
The announcement came by way of Meta’s developer forums, where the weekly release notes detailed some of the changes that are coming to Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest Pro, and Meta Quest 2 during the week of April 8. Tops among those (and the one that everyone seems most excited about) is the ability to continue using Meta Quest 3 while lying down.
According to the blog post, this will be an Experimental feature that you can enable in Settings. Once enabled, you can hold the menu button on your controls to reorient the view when you’re lying down. Meta says this feature is for “casual experiences including media playback and stationary immersive gaming.”
In addition to this new feature, Quest 3 is also getting external mic support so you can use a USB mic with your headset and pass through improvements that include better resolution and image quality. The settings for external mic support are in the Experimental menu in Settings. And the pass-through improvements should be automatic. The nice thing about the pass-through updates is that you’ll be able to see the world around you more clearly and with better detail.
All versions of the Quest (3, Pro, and 2) are also getting some casting improvements. Now, when you take your Quest headset off, casting will continue, uninterrupted, which Meta says provides “an improved and more seamless casting experience.”
Finally, Meta is also testing ways to make it easier to join your friends in Meta Horizon Worlds. With shared activity status, you can use the People app to find your friends and enter Horizon Worlds where they are.
All these improvements are coming to Meta Quest during the week of April 8. You can learn more about them and upcoming updates on Meta’s Quest Blog.
