Two power options means it fits any house and budget without sacrificing important features.
Smart doorbells are indispensable to any home security system, monitoring people, packages, pets, and more. Some smart video doorbells need a battery boost every few months or require a wired connection that some homes don’t support. Tapo offers a solution.
TP-Link’s Tapo brand introduced two new smart video doorbell options today in a press release sent to Lifewire, the Tapo D225 and the cheaper Tapo D210. Both come with a suite of features at no added cost, including AI detection, microSD storage, two-way audio, and voice assistant compatibility.
The higher-priced Tapo D225 records in 2K QHD resolution with a 180-degree FOV and supports color night vision with a built-in spotlight. Two power options are supported. If hardwired, it can record all day, every day. Always-on Mode also supports Pre-Roll, meaning it will record motion events before the motion is triggered. This provides up to an additional four seconds of video. The other option is battery-powered; the 10,000mAh battery in this video doorbell is said to last up to eight months on a charge.
The company’s other new smart video doorbell, the budget-friendly Tapo D225, is powered by a 6,400mAh battery, so it doesn’t offer 24/7 recording or Pre-Roll. Otherwise, both doorbells offer all the same features at no extra fee, including AI detection, SD storage up to 512 GB, Wi-Fi-supported chime, and Google Assistant and Alexa compatibility to see who’s at the door on your smart display. Tapo Care is available for 30 days of cloud storage but it does cost extra.
To receive alerts when someone’s at the door, both video doorbells also support Ring Call. This feature works like other smart video doorbells that ring the owner’s phone when someone rings the doorbell.
Tapo also makes plugs, sensors, light bulbs, and other smart home products. The company says the doorbells can integrate with these other products.
The dual-powered Tapo D225 ($100) and the battery-powered Tapo D210 ($60) are available on Amazon.
