- The CGO600 Pro is super lightweight and easy to lift on and off my bike rack.
- It looks great with its streamlined design, gorgeous sky blue color, and integrated headlight.
- The simple gear/pedal assist system works well and makes riding a joy.
The Tenways CGO600 Pro is a delightful, lightweight e-bike that’s so easy to get on and go.
I’ve tested quite a few e-bikes, and most of them are of the heavy, cargo-focused variety. They’re built like tanks and have a wide variety of sidecars, trike storage, or just tons of space for hauling stuff.
This Tenways e-bike is more like a bike you might find locked in front of a school or at a park. You just get on and ride it, not worrying if you have the right pannier bag or special cargo accessories.
Lightweight With Plenty of Range
It’s light at 37 pounds (most of my other e-bikes start at about 64 pounds), which makes it easy to pop on and off my hitch-mounted bike rack. The aluminum frame and front fork help with this, as does the lack of massive cargo racks.
The drive is a Gates carbon belt, not a chain, which is all kinds of easy to maintain and manage. I felt pretty good taking this out in the rain, too, as it won’t rust up if I don’t dry or oil it.
The battery is integrated right into the front diagonal of the frame, and it slots in and out with ease. It’s easy to charge up to its 360 Wh of power, giving you around 53 miles of range, depending on what you’re carrying with you. It’s got a top speed of 20 mph like other Class 2 e-bikes in the US, and a lovely minimalist screen that basically just shows you your speed and the level of pedal assist.
There are three levels of assist, and the torque sensor feels really nice when riding, giving you up to 45Nm of torque. The Mivice M080 350W rear hub motor is strong enough to help you up average hills and inclines, though it’s gonna require a little more effort than you might be used to from other e-bikes with a more powerful motor.
I like that even with pedal assist on, I can still get some exercise on this thing.
There’s a connected app if you want, too, letting you dive farther into your stats as a rider like distance, duration, and a log of your rides.
A Couple of Downsides
It’s a little rough on the ride; there aren’t any fork suspensions or fat tires to cushion any bumps on your ride, but it feels fast and responsive, which helps me feel more in control of my destiny than some other e-bikes that require some wrestling to move around and stop.
The setup was pretty easy, though the hydraulic brakes were new to me, and I ended up needing to take the bike to a professional bike shop to add oil back into the system. If you’re unfamiliar with hydraulic brakes, you might want to take the whole thing in for professional installation. If you don’t want to do that, just remember not to unscrew any of the hex bolts on the brakes, even if it feels like they might not fit onto the disc.
Anyway, once all put together, this CGO600 Pro e-bike is a delight to look at and to ride. Riding downtown for matcha at the local tea shop just got a lot less complicated. I just unplug the e-bike, grab my helmet, and head out into the world.
