The Ford F-150 is celebrating its 50th birthday next year. That’s older than many of us here at CarBuzz, which has been America’s best-selling truck for 48 years and the best-selling vehicle overall for 43 years. Yes, that includes this concluding year, at least until November 2024. Since 1977, two years after the first F-150 was introduced, Ford has moved 33 million F-Series trucks from various Ford assembly plants in the country.

The Secret To The F-Series Popularity
The secret to the F-Series’ popularity is the wide range of options for the entire line. From the F-150 light-duty full-size truck to the Super Duty line of heavy-duty pickups, up to the F-600 Chassis Cab line – there’s definitely an F-Series truck for every customer’s desires and needs. This also works for the Chevy Silverado light- and heavy-duty trucks, which have always been competing in the same space as the Blue Oval’s F-Series.

The F-Series diversity also comes with a wide variety of powertrains available for any usage. From diesel-powered workhorses to the glorious V8 – among the last two Blue Oval vehicles with eight-pot mills – customers have plenty of options. The F-150 alone has eight trim levels to choose from in 2025. The addition of an electrified setup, particularly the PowerBoost Hybrid F-150, certainly adds a boost in terms of fuel efficiency, while the F-150 Lightning, the first electric F-Series, adds pure electrification into the fold.
Numbers Are Already Conclusive As Of Q3 2024
Ford didn’t disclose how many F-Series trucks were sold from January to November 2024, so you have the right to argue that 2024 hasn’t ended yet, and it’s too early to call it a day. However, the numbers were already conclusive at the end of Q3 2024, with YTD sales figures favoring Ford. It had sold 619,197 as of September this year, with the Silverado being the closest rival at 412,397 units. It’s a landslide matchup, we must say, and there’s no way the Bowtie brand can rack up enough numbers to remotely challenge America’s number one.

Pricing ranges from $45,000 to nearly six figures.
Next year, however, Chevrolet hopes to be a little more competitive in 2025. While the Silverado EV was delayed earlier this year, it’s now starting to reach customers, which should help Chevy steal at least a few sales from its cross-town rival. That said, the dominance of the Ford F-Series will always be nearly impossible to overcome unless something terribly wrong starts becoming apparent with Ford’s trucks.
“The enduring legacy of the F-Series is not just a result of our relentless pursuit of improvement but also a reflection of the trust between Ford, our dealers, and customers. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve our customers and are committed to continuing to earn their business every single day.”
